Metropolis – New Translation

“Metropolis – New Translation” is a from-the-ground-up re-translation of Thea von Harbou’s “Metropolis: Novel”, written concurrently to the screenplay for the film of the same name.

Many elements of the novel are just as enchanting as the film, with wonderful descriptions and elaborations on themes and ideas ultimately cut from the film. This includes occult and religious worship, a mother wound complex within Joh Fredersen and on the motivations of characters like Rotwang, the “mad scientist” of Metropolis. This new translation seeks to do all of these ideas full justice.
